How Much Does a Logo Cost?

I get one question quite often: How much does a logo cost? The answer isn’t as straightforward as you might hope — logo design cost (investment!) can vary depending on a wide range of factors. First, there are two things people mean when they say “logo design.”

Logo Design vs. Brand Identity

Sometimes logo design means just that. But sometimes it means more.

A logo is a graphic mark, symbol, or wordmark that represents a business, organization, or brand. It serves as a visual identifier that helps people recognize and remember your brand. It is essentially a single visual element.

A brand identity is a collection of visual and strategic elements that define how a brand presents itself to the world. It goes beyond just the logo and includes typography, color palettes and brand guidelines. It can also include custom icons, shapes or patterns.

At Poetica, every logo project is delivered with a style guide that outlines color palette and typography. This ensures consistency and brand quality across all channels and communication materials. Brand identity projects are delivered with a more extensive range of visual elements including icons, custom graphics, patterns, and brand collateral like business cards, letterheads or even websites.

If you’re just starting out, or not sure what you need, I can talk you through the options and help identify the right path for your business.

What are the deliverables?

  • Logo variations – To maintain versatility, most logos are designed in both a stacked and horizontal format. For each format, you will receive a full-color variation (when relevant), reverse (all-white) variation and one-color (usually black) variation.

  • Favicon and Social Media Graphic – You will also receive a favicon (the small icon associated with a website, typically displayed in browser tabs, bookmarks, and address bars) along with a square version for any application needing a square graphic, such as a social media profile image.

  • Logo files - Your logo will be delivered in three file formats: jpg (white background), png (transparent background), and eps (vector). Learn more about the different file formats here.

  • Style Guide or Brand Identity Guide – Along with your logo files, you will receive a style guide, or more comprehensive brand guide, that outlines color palette, typography and logo usage guidelines.

  • Additional Files – Depending on your needs, the final package will be delivered with any additional graphics such as a business cards, letterheads or custom patterns or graphics.

What factors affect the cost?

Logo design vs. Brand Identity design – Do you need just a simple logo and style guide, or would your business benefit from a more comprehensive brand identity.

Complexity of the design – If a client approaches me with a complex concept they would like adapted into a logo, this will be a more time-consuming (costly) project than a client looking for a simple design or wordmark.

Type of Business/Market Research – The type of business or industry the logo will be designed for can affect pricing. For example, a large healthcare organization with multiple community partners and stakeholders will require more research, strategy and meeting time, than a logo for a small yoga studio or nonprofit.

Concept Variations – The initial design concepts of a new logo usually include 2-3 variations for the client’s consideration. Next, the client chooses one concept and we do as many rounds of editing and refining as needed until it’s exactly how they want it. In some instances, a client might request more options, or more rounds of multiple variations, which can increase cost.

Add-ons – We can add on a wide range of brand collateral to a logo package, including business cards, letterheads, newsletter templates, PowerPoint slides, and websites.

Timeline – Logo projects generally take 6-8 weeks to complete. Do you need the logo sooner? Rush projects incur additional fees.
